English Vinglish

Hi there! K again.  Looks like another movie review, so we better get started. [for those of you who may be thinking, “Another movie review? Was there one before this?” you obviously haven’t read Kahaani. So what are you waiting for? Go read it! (After you finish reading this post of course!!)] Well, to business.  This movie is the come-back film of an actress called ‘Sridevi’ and it’s all about an Indian woman learning English.  There are NO violent scenes, except where Sagar, the little boy, gets hit with a ball (by accident) and gets hurt, but that’s not VIOLENT violent, if you know what I mean.  Anyway, it’s short.  But there are some kind of heart-breaking scenes, like the café scene (the very first one. There’s another one which is a much much much more triumphant moment, the ‘perfect order’ scene.)  The woman, Sashi, gets a bit fed up, because English is starting to take over India a bit, like at the PTA meeting with Sapna, her daughter.  Then things get worse when they have to go to New York for a wedding.  A whole CITY that speaks mainly English! Yikes!  Luckily, the wedding was Indian. (An relative of theirs was marrying an American.)  Sashi sees an ad to learn English in 4 weeks, which happens to be about the same amount of time that she is staying there…
